About John Hurley’s Art
An Artist… I mean, a true, naturally gifted artist, is blessed! Not only with the ability draw or paint, but they are also able to connect and immerse themselves with the world around them. They blend with all the wonders that nature brings.
My very first memory of being a creative, was many years ago, as a small child. My mother took me to see ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ at the cinema.
I was not only amazed by the story, but with how it was all painted – the scenery, the landscape, the trees and the sky etc. After seeing that film I was hooked on Walt Disney films.
Even to this day I still love them!
Walt Disney – a man that took three simple circles, and turned them into the most famous mouse in the world – that to me is mind blowing!
When I step towards a blank canvas with the brush, I feel like a magician; mixing the various hues and pigments, breathing life into a page, making something appear and live from nothing.
I have taken many influences from great masters of the art world; Rubens, Titian, Hogarth, Van Gogh, Monet, among many others.
Although I trained at art schools, refining my skills at the London College of Fashion, I always believed in the power I had to fuse my very being onto paper, wood or canvas.
I thank God everyday for being given the gift to uplift people through my ability to create, my ability to enhance someones life – like I was that day I went to watch Disney’s ‘Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs’. To be able to inspire others through my own art – is a blessing!
Teaching Art fills my heart with so much joy. Watching my students walk into class without much confidence and then, over time, watching their talents emerge and flourish is wonderful. People just need someone out there to believe in them, and with encouragement they can achieve and create anything they want to.
Art to me, isn’t just a ‘thing’ I can do, it’s a feeling! And that feeling courses through my veins, it possesses me, it takes control of my soul, leaving me charged with the energy to create.
